Some states do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties or the limitation or exclusion of liability for incidental or consequential damages, so the above exclusions and limitations may not apply to you. - 3 - _3. _I_n_t_r_o_d_u_c_t_i_o_n This is a very brief introduction to the beginnings of an understanding of the word TAROT, what place it has held and played in history, and what place it can hold and play in our present culture. In the libraries of the world there have been many books which have attempted to set out the origin of the Tarot (Taro) or Rota system of understanding, but the sources are vague and precede so far back in history, always changing their form, that what information can be received is, to say the least, sketchy and not what could be called clear-cut. The Tarot seems to appear most strongly during the Egyptian era, not in the form of cards or tablets, but in the form of occult ideas expressed in hiero- glyphs, symbols upon stone and then later, as various forms of occult writings and drawings, they found their way into centres of esoteric study. As an example, the Pythagorean School was most interested in the mathematical possi- bility of the Tarot or Rota pack. What has happened throughout history is that various scholars and church peo- ple have tried to amalgamate all the ideas that are found therein according to the level of understanding of their age and using the symbology current in their age. As often happens, however, in history, much was lost and much was misunderstood, resulting in a variety of different and diverse Tarot packs appearing in the middle centuries. As part of this degeneration, most games in one form or another (including chess) are off-shoots or weakened versions of the ideas and indications expressed in the original Tarots. As the understanding of these has become weaker and more vague, so it is that in the 20th century the Tarot has largely become the tool of the fortune-teller and all manner of charlatans who 'sup- pose' great knowledge, clairvoyance and prophetic power. The Tarot was originated and was caused in the first place because humans were awed and impressed by the workings of the stars, of nature and of themselves - so much so that they made attempts to turn the millions of ideas and words thus inspired into pictures, because, as you have heard it said, 'a good pic- ture is worth ten thousand words'. _3._1. _U_s_e _o_f _t_h_e _T_a_r_o_t _a_n_d _P_r_e_p_a_r_a_t_i_o_n_s The Tarot should be used for detecting the nature and likely outcome of what is currently influencing a life. That is its purpose. It was never designed as a fortune telling tool. It should always be treated with great respect and consideration. It is a useful tool for the natural divination of oneself or others. Realise that it is impossible to give oneself a tarot reading for you cannot know you or see you. It is only by putting things outside oneself so that they can be reflected back to you, that you can see you and thus determine what is nonsense and what is real, for to do otherwise would be to consign yourself to a fantasy existence. The usefulness of the computer tarot is that the process has been automated, allowing tarot reference in the absence of another to generate a reading and interpretation. The level of this is - 4 - therefore none too high and cannot truly substitute for a genuine tarot expert. First, before consulting the Tarot, one should take time and have serious con- sideration concerning what one wishes to know and to have formulated that with care into a significant question and this should be done before one even approaches the Tarot pack itself. - 5 - _4. _O_p_e_r_a_t_i_n_g _I_n_s_t_r_u_c_t_i_o_n_s This program can be run from the distribution floppy, a hard disc drive, or a backup floppy. When running from a hard disc, make sure that all files from the floppy are copied to the same directory. The files contained on the dis- tribution floppy diskette are: README.1ST These instructions TAROT.BAT Startup batch file HALORTP.EXE Graphics driver HALO011.FNT Graphics font file HALOIBME.DEV IBM device details TAROVIBM.COM IBM tarot program TAROVIBM.000 IBM tarot overlay TAROT.DAT Tarot program data _4._1. _R_e_q_u_i_r_e_m_e_n_t_s In order to run this program you will need an IBM PC/XT/AT or true compatible running MS-DOS 2.1 or later with 256 kBytes minimum RAM and EGA graphics. _4._2. _A_T_T _6_3_0_0 _C_o_l_o_r _V_e_r_s_i_o_n The ATT 6300 or similar with DEB 16 color graphics is also supported. To obtain a copy of this version, mail your original distribution diskette, your name, address, and phone number and a brief letter stating that you would like to ATT version to: Emin NorthEast America PO Box 1320 Melrose, MA 02176 You will receive the ATT version free of charge. You may make personal use copies only of the original distribution IBM version media before mailing it in for your ATT version floppy. _4._3. _B_r_i_e_f _I_n_s_t_r_u_c_t_i_o_n_s With your default drive and directory set to where all the distributed files are stored, enter the commands: HALORTP TAROT - 6 - _4._4. _D_e_t_a_i_l_e_d _I_n_s_t_r_u_c_t_i_o_n_s _4._4._1. _S_t_a_r_t_u_p o Insert Tarot of Frownstrong floppy into drive labelled "a" o Set your default device to floppy drive "a" by entering the command: A: o If you wish to run from a hard disk, - Make a new directory on the hard disk and copy the files from the floppy to it. In this example we will make a directory called "\tarot" on the hard disk device labelled "c". To do this, enter the DOS command: MKDIR C:\TAROT - Then copy everything from the floppy to the new directory on the hard disk with the command: COPY *.* C:\TAROT\*.* - Now change your default drive and directory to "c:\tarot" by enter- ing the commands: C: CD \TAROT - You may now remove the floppy from drive "a" and return it to a safe place. o Before executing the program (from either floppy or hard disk) you must load the graphics driver. This driver need only be loaded once. If you re-boot your computer, you will need to load it again. Load the graphics driver by entering the command: HALORTP Note that you can add the line "c:\tarot\halortp" to the file "autoexec.bat" to automatically install the graphics driver every time the system is booted. When the IMSI Halo graphics driver is loaded, the following message appears: Halo resident driver (c) Softwriters Inc./Media Cybernetics Inc. 1984, 1985 o You may now run the tarot program by executing the batch file "tarot.bat" with the command: TAROT This batch file executes the main program "tarotvibm". This program - 7 - produces a number of different screen displays, each of which will now be described. _4._4._2. _I_n_t_r_o_d_u_c_t_o_r_y _S_c_r_e_e_n The first screen provides a message that presages the session and a short melody as well as the copyright message. When the song has completed, a mes- sage will appear on the bottom line that reads "PRESS E TO ENTER". To cause the Home Menu to be drawn, press: E _4._4._3. _H_o_m_e _M_e_n_u _S_c_r_e_e_n This is your base of operations. From here you may select to study the archives by pressing: A obtain readings by pressing: R or exit the program by pressing: E _4._4._4. _A_r_c_h_i_v_e _S_c_r_e_e_n_s To study the Archives, select "A". You will then be prompted for the number of the card to study. For your information, a list of numbers and current names is reproduced here. 1 The Juggler 8 Justice 15 The Green Man 2 The Priestess 9 The Searcher 16 The Tower 3 The Empress 10 The Wheel 17 The Star 4 The Emperor 11 Strength 18 The Moon 5 The Hierophant 12 The Hanged Man 19 Sun Card 6 Life 13 The Reaper 20 The Resurrection 7 The Chariot 14 The Communication 21 Nymph of Ability After entering a card number, the archive text for that card and a picture of the card will be displayed. After each screenful of text, the computer will wait for you to press an M to list the next screenful or an H to return to the Home Menu. After the last screenful of text, the computer - 8 - waits for an "H" to return to the Home Menu. From there, you may again select any of the three options: "A" to study the Archives, "R" for Readings, or "E" to Exit. If the readings option is entered: R the following screens will appear... _4._4._5. _R_e_a_d_i_n_g_s - _W_e_l_c_o_m_e _S_c_r_e_e_n Welcome to the Tarot. This screen will ask you three questions. First you will be asked to enter your name. At any time the backspace or delete keys can be used to erase incorrect characters. Press <Enter> when you have fin- ished typing your name. Next you will be asked for your birthdate. First enter the month as a number. For example, February would be entered as 2 and November as 11. As with the name, you may erase incorrect characters with the backspace or delete keys and you must press <Enter> when you are finished entering your birthmonth. Next enter the year of your birth, being sure to include all four digits. For example, if you were born on the March 12, 1945 you would type: 3 <Enter> 12 <Enter> 1945 <Enter> After you have entered your birthdate, you will be asked to enter today's date. This is done in exactly the same way. Finally this screen will ask if you have entered all the information correctly. If you press N you will be allowed to re-enter all of the information. If you press Y the next screen will be drawn. _4._4._6. _R_e_a_d_i_n_g_s _S_e_l_e_c_t_i_o_n _S_c_r_e_e_n This screen will greet you by name, astrological sign and root number. Your root number is the repetitive sum of all the digits in your birthdate. For example, if you were born on March 12, 1945, first you write down your birth- - 9 - date in numbers: 3 12 1945 Then you start adding up the digits. So from left to right we have: 3+1 = 4 4+2 = 6 6+1 = 7 7+9 = 16 16+4 = 20 20+5 = 25 Finally, we add the digits of this result: 2+5 = 7 So if you were born on March 12, 1945, your root number would be 7. Root numbers, like astrological signs, exert an influence upon our natures and possibilities. If the inquiry is of a personal nature, the Personal reading should be selected. If the reading is to extend over a period of time, the Octave read- ing should be selected. If the reading is to show what is for or against you, then the Seal of Solomon reading should be selected. If none of these apply, the reader can customize the reading by selecting the opeN reading. Press "P" to select a Personal reading, "O" for an Octave reading, "S" for Seal of Solo- mon reading or "N" for an opeN reading. See the help menu texts section for more details concerning the interpretation of each reading. If a Seal of Solomon reading is selected, you will be prompted to select either a Conscious (by pressing "C"), Semi-conscious (by pressing "S"), or Unconscious (by pressing "U") level of reading. If an opeN reading is selected, you will be asked to enter a number from 1 to 7. This is the number of cards to use in the opeN reading. You must press the <Enter> key after typing the number. Next, when ready, decide whether the nature of the question requires a general or a specific answer. If a general one, the computer will cut the deck once, that is, divide the cards and place the bottom cards upon the top just once. If specific (the computer) will repeat the action twice more, making for three cuts. If your decision is that the reading be specific, press "S". If it is that the reading be general, press "G". Realise that this is a reading for one's essence life and has nothing to do with one's personality. The last question this screen asks is how many times to shuffle the cards. Type a number from 0 to 99, erasing any mistakes, and press the <Enter> key when done. Finally, this screen lists the selections you have made and asks you to enter a "Y" if they are correct, or a "N" to re-enter them. Once all the informa- tion is as you desire and "Y" is pressed, the screen is cleared to prepare for - 10 - the reading. _4._4._7. _N_e_g_a_t_i_o_n _C_a_r_d Here is a caution! It may just be that instead of a reading, the Negation card will be played, terminating the process. If it is then it is best to leave off getting a read- ing for the time being and re-apply later. _4._4._8. _T_h_e _R_e_a_d_i_n_g For the reading, first the cards are shuffled. Second, you press a "C" to cut the cards in response to the program's prompt. Third, a "D" is pressed, again after a prompt, in order to deal the cards. Fourth, a "T" is pressed in order to turn the cards so that their faces may be seen. Whilst this is going on, you (when more knowledgeable) should consider what cards to expect from one's own feeling, clairvoyancy and sensitivity of the moment. Adopt an open attitude for the reading. The Tarot can now be read. It all depends on the multiplicity of the ways, expertise and knowledge of the reader. When you wish to continue, press "M" in response to the prompt to receive a short message that relates to the mean- ing of the reading. This message is of necessity short and may require thought and meditation for its meaning to become clear. It is meant only as a guide. For deeper insight you are encouraged to study the cards themselves. Once the message has been displayed, you may enter "H" to receive help on interpreting the specific layout chosen or "L" to end the reading. Note that the help screens available through the "H" option are reprinted below for you reference. _4._4._9. _E_n_d_i_n_g _t_h_e _R_e_a_d_i_n_g Having selected "L" to leave the reading, you may enter "H" to return to the Home Menu, "R" to obtain another reading for the same person, or "E" to exit the program. If "R" is chosen, the reading process is repeated from the Read- ings Selection Screen. If "H" is chosen, you will be returned to the Home Menu where you can select a reading for another person, study the archives, or exit. _4._4._1_0. _E_x_i_t_i_n_g _t_h_e _P_r_o_g_r_a_m Whenever the "E" for Exit option is selected, the user is given a final mes- sage, hears a closing tune, and is then prompted to press an "A" to return to DOS. - 11 - _5. _T_e_c_h_n_i_c_a_l _a_n_d _P_h_i_l_o_s_o_p_h_i_c_a_l _S_u_p_p_o_r_t For technical and philosophical support, you may write to: Emin NorthEast America PO Box 1320 Melrose, MA 02176 - 12 - _6. _H_e_l_p _M_e_n_u _T_e_x_t_s The following text is a copy of that provided on the help screens accompanying the readings. _6._1. _P_e_r_s_o_n_a_l _R_e_a_d_i_n_g 1 0 0 6 0 0 2 0 0 9 5 7 0 0 4 0 0 8 0 0 3 The Personal reading, as you are today, is formed from a combination of what are called the Physical (Vertical) and Solar (Diagonal) crosses and has multi- ple meaning according to one's learning and development. They refer to the influences upon the human coming from the planet and the sun, which affect human life accordingly throughout the complex. First, as a start, consider the blood systems. These are the arterial and venal systems which it is suggested you research, in that the first government extends from the blood. This then extends to the brain, mind, soul, etc. Firstly, the computer lays out, face down, three rows of seven cards each. Going clockwise outside, the four cards at the four corners will be turned over. Cards ordered One through Four represent what is external to the inquirer; external influences or influences from without that are currently acting upon the person. Prime importance being the first card, its Extension being the second card, Development the third, and Resolution the fourth. Any such similar or relevant pattern of thought of four that begins from the core and moves to the various extensions may also be used. For example, beginning with Spring, then Summer, Winter and ending with Autumn. This can be researched by one's investigation of Nature. Now to move inside the lid of the internal process, turning clockwise as one proceeds, the cards numbered 6 through 9 are turned. They represent the internal process of what is arising in oneself. This may or may not match what is external. Thus the saying, "You become what you think about." Generally what comes your way you caused to come about. That is the way the world works, by your invitation; whether pleasant or unpleasant, significant or insignificant, you invited it. The Central card is the quintessence, the sum result of the other four. It represents the most significant influence of that life at that time. Alone it means nothing. It requires the company of the other cards for its explanation and meaning, in that all lives respond to the 21 influences, each revealed in its own time. Some are dormant, others are active; conscious, semiconscious, - 13 - or unconscious. Not all are at play all of the time. One should not spend too much time with the reading. Explanation, therefore, should be as brief as possible. Research is needed to expand its meaning. You'll find the answers by research into nature and the natural laws. The Tarot is not meant to be a substitute. It was designed to serve as an intro- duction and to teach about nature's ways; it is an educational tool rather than an actuality. _6._2. _O_c_t_a_v_e _R_e_a_d_i_n_g Get to see that music starts with a key note commonly referred to as "Doh" or "Do". That is the basic note of any piece of music. The music starts on that note and ends on it, which is required for satisfactory listening. As it begins, so will it end, as you start, so will you finish. Second to this, what starts the same thing also finishes it. Carbonic acid in plants causes leaves to wither just as it causes the bud to become full and blossom and bring fruit. This cycle is of generation as all natural processes of octavian expression happen and proceed to the following diagram. 3 7 1 2 4 5 6 8 9 First card, second card and then the node or shock point. This shock is external and different from the process and acts upon the process and causes its continuance. Without this shock nothing organic can happen. e.g You need air to help digest your food. e.g Start to learn a subject without introduction of knowledge from a different level or order of learning and it will become a dead-end and sterile very quickly. Proceed to cards ordered 4, 5, and 6, then a further shock is required to journey into cards ordered 8 and 9. The cards ordered 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 8 and 9 thus represent the action of a current influence that will travel with you over a given period of time. The period of time to be surveyed should be in the mind of the inquirer as they form the question. However this reading will only demonstrate the possibility of current influ- ence and it will not necessarily be written this way. For the Human has choice over the direction of their life, although this is seldom exercised since rarely is choice conscious; usually it's automatic and foregone and not chosen. Real choice is a conscious act and is unpredictable, for who knows what in reality tomorrow will bring? It's difficult to live this way in the modern world which seeks to order and suppress from the cradle to the grave and thus rob a life of its originality. - 14 - _6._3. _S_e_a_l _o_f _S_o_l_o_m_o_n _R_e_a_d_i_n_g 1 5 6 7 3 2 4 This reading of what is for and what is against a person can be read at one of three levels - conscious, semi-conscious and unconscious. It is formed in the shape of the Seal of Solomon, two interlaced triangles, one upward pointing and one downward pointing, with a seventh card placed in the centre. The central card represents the inquirer situated between two triangles. The upward pointing triangle represents what is for the inquirer in triadic form and in similar fashion the downward pointing triangle represents what is against them at this time. This permits viewing of one's situation with clar- ity from the standpoint of the central card. The levels to this reading are formed from three successive dealings of seven cards. There are three levels the inquirer can choose; conscious, semi-conscious and unconscious. The reading is done in clockwise fashion, first the upward pointing triangle, then the downward pointing triangle, and lastly, the central card. This repeats with all cards to get all three levels of the reading; for Conscious reading, the top card for Semi-Conscious reading, the middle card for Unconscious reading, the bottom card The upward pointing triangle is for, the downward pointing triangle is against, and the central card is core response. In each triangle of cards, the first card is positive, the second negative and the third neutral. Further information can be gleaned by a study of the symbols to be found on the Star card (17). - 15 - _6._4. _O_p_e_n _R_e_a_d_i_n_g The computer version of the Tarot of Frownstrong allows you to compose a read- ing of up to 7 cards as you feel the need. Seven cards could be indicative of: 7 centers of the human complex 7 days of the week 7 colors of the rainbow 7 ??? Here you are encouraged to make your own discoveries by further research into the law of 7. 6 represents life matters coming from you and at you to do with influences from that sphere. 5 Always instruction; 4 Cycles of organic generation; 3 Religious aspects; 2 Decision for or against; 1 Prime influence; We're sure that with a bit of diligent research, much progress can be made. _6._5. _G_e_n_e_r_a_l _N_o_t_e These indications are here to help you get started, and not to provide an exhaustive reference work upon the tarot that could only bog one down and deny the excitement of original discovery. This computer program was designed as a tutorial to help set the genuine enquirer on the path of a truly great study that can lead to revelation and wisdom most rare. Make the cards dance. %
